Barcelona Expands Resident-Led Tours Across El Born, Gràcia Neighborhoods

Barcelona added three resident-designed walking routes this week that start from the El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria and move along Carrer del Rec into the backstreets of the old silk district.
The additions come as daily visitor numbers at major sites such as the Sagrada Família exceed 25,000 during peak July weeks, prompting the city tourism office to promote smaller-scale alternatives that keep spending inside neighborhood businesses.
Resident routes in two districts
One route covers the former market hall at El Born and ends at the Fossar de les Moreres memorial, while the second, run by the Associació de Veïns de Gràcia, begins at Plaça del Sol and stops at four family-run vermouth bars along Carrer de Verdi before reaching Parc Güell’s lower entrance. Both programs operate daily at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. through 15 September.
Numbers and next steps
City records show 148,000 people joined similar neighborhood tours in 2025, with average spend per participant at 22 euros including one drink or snack. Participants can reserve places on the Barcelona Turisme website or by calling the district offices; same-day spots are released at 8 a.m. each morning for the evening departures.
Early booking is advised for groups larger than four, and comfortable shoes plus a refillable water bottle remain essential given midday temperatures that reached 32 degrees Celsius last week.
