Barcelona's Best Family Activities: Parks and Museums Open This July

Barcelona families have lined up for summer programs that opened this week at multiple city sites.

School terms ended on 30 June across Catalonia, leaving parents to fill seven weeks before September classes restart. The city council extended its annual family activity grants by 15 percent this year to meet demand, with bookings handled through the Barcelona Cultura website.

Parc Güell in the Gràcia district added morning craft sessions for ages six to twelve that run daily until 31 July. Staff at the site reported 420 children registered in the first three days. Nearby, the Barcelona Zoo inside Parc de la Ciutadella introduced a new penguin-feeding tour limited to groups of five families, priced at 12 euros per child and available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Park and museum schedules

Both locations operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to avoid peak afternoon heat. The zoo program uses the main entrance on Passeig de Picasso, while Parc Güell sessions start at the Carrer d'Olot gate. City records show average daily attendance at these two sites reached 8,200 visitors during the first week of July last year.

Entry to the zoo stands at 21 euros for adults and 12.60 euros for children aged three to twelve. Family passes covering two adults and two children cost 60 euros and include the new tour slot. Parc Güell craft materials are supplied free with the standard monument ticket of 10 euros.

Booking and access details

Reservations close 48 hours in advance for both programs. Parents can register online or at the district offices on Carrer de Maria Aurèlia Capmany in Gràcia. The city recommends arriving by metro to avoid parking shortages along Avinguda de la Diagonal. Updated timetables appear each Monday on the official tourism app.
