Funding Inflows Drive Tech Hiring Surge in Barcelona Districts
Venture rounds and corporate expansions are creating new roles at firms clustered around the 22@ zone and Eixample offices.
How we reported this
Barcelona startups raised €820 million in the first half of 2026, a 34 percent jump from the same period last year, according to data compiled by the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and released this week.
The increase comes as global investors seek stable European hubs while trade routes face disruption and energy costs climb. Local firms report that the capital is converting directly into headcount, with engineering, product and sales positions opening at rates not seen since 2022.
Clusters Along Carrer de Pallars and Avinguda Diagonal
Most of the new activity sits inside the 22@ district, where companies occupy refurbished warehouses on Carrer de Pallars and Carrer de Roc Boronat. Barcelona Tech City, the nonprofit that runs the district’s innovation programs, logged 47 new member companies since January, many of them scaling teams after Series B rounds. A few blocks west, on Avinguda Diagonal, established players such as Glovo and travel-tech firm eDreams ODIGEO have posted 180 combined openings in the past 90 days.
Barcelona Activa’s talent program at the former Can Batlló complex in Sants has already placed 620 candidates into these roles through its June cohort alone. The agency’s latest intake round closed on 8 July and drew 2,400 applications for 310 spots.
Numbers Behind the Expansion
Chamber figures show average round size reached €12 million, up from €9 million in 2025, with median valuations climbing to €85 million. Salaries for mid-level software engineers in the 22@ cluster now average €62,000, a €7,000 rise from last summer. The same report projects another 4,200 tech positions will be created by December if current funding momentum holds.
Job seekers can register for the next Barcelona Activa matching session scheduled for 22 July at the Poblenou campus or monitor listings posted daily on the 22@ job board hosted at the district’s Roc Boronat headquarters.
