Barcelona Activa runs the We Boost What You Do program, which set aside 2.5 million euros in its latest round to fund commercial proposals in High Traffic Spaces. The money helps cover costs that often block small operators from taking physical locations, particularly in areas where rents have climbed and visitor numbers strain daily operations. Recipients gain resources to hire staff and train them on site, directly expanding the pool of retail roles available in the city.
Fairs link entrepreneurs with workers
The BizBarcelona fair supplies a second channel for talent movement. Its July 1-2 edition focuses on entrepreneurs and growing companies, while the October 15-16 edition brings 170-plus speakers and 75 exhibitors to discuss funding, digital tools, and hiring practices. Organizers expect the events to connect shop owners with job seekers who want stable, neighborhood-based work rather than seasonal or platform-driven positions.
Separate guides already list more than 50 independent businesses that residents and visitors can patronize. Continued use of those lists, combined with attendance at the two BizBarcelona dates or applications to the grant program, offers practical routes for people seeking entry into Barcelona's small-retail workforce this year.
